Best Cyberpunk 2077 Mods

Better law enforcement, additional character customization, and a solution to the transmog problem.

There’s no denying it. The open-world RPG Cyberpunk 2077 was released in raw and incomplete condition, and despite a recent large patch that fixed hundreds of bugs, it’s still a bumpy ride. To put it another way, if you’ve been waiting for the game to be finished before starting to play (or continuing where you left off), you still have a long way to go.

However, if you do want to jump back in right now, there are some fantastic mods available that address some of Cyberpunk 2077’s most serious flaws. Mods won’t make Cyberpunk 2077 a complete game—something that’s only the devs can do, and hopefully they will someday—but they can improve your experience.

Here are seven mods that fix some of Cyberpunk 2077’s most serious issues. Please bear in mind that as new patches and hotfixes are released for the game, some mods may become incompatible until the makers update them. You’ll also want to install Cyberengine Tweaks, as a number requires it of the mods listed below.

Enhanced Police

Because there isn’t one, one of the most glaring flaws in Cyberpunk 2077 is the lack of a police response system. Many open-world games have systems in place where NPCs can witness and report crimes, resulting in the police appearing and attempting to track you down. Regrettably, in Cyberpunk 2077, crimes are recognized even when no one is there, and the police just teleport to your position and open fire.

This mod doesn’t entirely overhaul police response, but it does at least put cops in cars after your desired level has reached a certain level. The fuzz will be on the move with a one-star desired level. They’ll start spawning on motorcycles after two stars. They’ll start showing up in police cars and 4x4s with three and four stars. It’s not perfect, but it’s a significant advance over what’s currently available.

Arasaka Appearance Updater

One of Cyberpunk 2077’s most perplexing absences is the ability to change your character’s appearance once you’ve started playing. You simply couldn’t win a game with such a robust character creator in a futuristic society designed around the idea that anyone can quickly modify their bodies and looks at the local ripper doc… You won’t be able to get a haircut or change your nail polish color once you’ve completed your V.

This mod allows you to modify V after you’ve begun playing. You won’t be able to entirely remodel your character, but you will be able to modify your haircut and adjust your facial characteristics, such as your eyes, nose, ears, and mouth, using sliders. We’re hoping that, like The Witcher 3’s free beard and hairdo DLC, the creators will eventually patch in a real system for re-customizing your character.

Transmog Workaround

In the universe of Cyberpunk 2077, style is everything, but sticking to that philosophy can be difficult when you stumble across a pair of pink hot pants with a higher armor rating than your Kevlar vest or a fedora with more damage protection than your sweet-looking biker jacket.

As you accumulate higher-level clothing, you’ll frequently be forced to pick between a wardrobe that looks nice and suits your character’s style and items with greater stats that may end up appearing mismatched and silly. That isn’t unheard of in games, but this is Cyberpunk, where your appearance should reflect how you feel. You can spend time crafting to better the clothes you like and visiting shops to find higher-level apparel you like, but you’ll still have to ditch your wardrobe frequently in favor of things you don’t like.

This workaround mod is a bit of a stretch—it basically makes every single article of legendary clothing quality and gives it the maximum number of slots. So, if you have a favorite pair of jeans or can’t live without a particular pair of sunglasses, you won’t have to give them up.

Better Minimap

This is a minor annoyance—it literally takes up a small square on your screen—but it has irritated every single one of Cyberpunk 2077’s millions of gamers.

Because the minimap is so small, you’ll frequently miss a turn when driving and following your GPS, forcing you to slam on the brakes and skidding all over the road, into barricades or pedestrians, or off a bridge.

The problem doesn’t appear to be that difficult, and other driving games have been doing it for years. When traveling at faster speeds, the minimap just needs to expand out so you can see your upcoming turns. However, this mod is a good workaround because it hasn’t been patched in yet.

Climate Change

Let’s face it: the weather of the future won’t be full of beautiful sunny days and miles of visibility—especially in Cyberpunk’s reality, where literal mountains of garbage surround the metropolis. Heavy pollution, industrial haze, and gloomy, overcast days are more likely than blue, cloudless skies.

These bleak weather aspects are already present in Cyberpunk 2077, and there are some bleak days in the base game, but this hack makes them the norm. Pollution, rain, poisonous fog, gloomy skies, or additional clouds are all options. The forecast for the future is bleak, and the weather should reflect that.

Change Your Favorite Cars

In Cyberpunk 2077, you’ll undoubtedly want to personalize more than just your character. The game has a lot of driving and a lot of different vehicles to gather. You’ll feel compelled to personalize them as well.

The patch offers a slew of re-skinning choices for your vehicles, all of which were culled from other vehicles in the game. Finally, you can give your favorite rides a fresh paint job, decals, and dozens of other looks.

The CyberBody Shop

This mod allows you to go beyond the character creation menu and completely modify your version of V if you really want to embrace the future of Cyberpunk. Change your legs, head, and body with cyberware, as some of the game’s most outlandish NPCs have done.

You can now get your entire body plated in chrome, your feet replaced with blades, and your skull implanted with the spectacular head implants seen in gangs like Maelstrom. After all, why not? There’s no reason not to flaunt the fact that you’re the deadliest person in Night City.

Unlock Night City

In Cyberpunk 2077, there is a selection of interior locales that you can only visit during special missions, and because most of those missions involve action, you don’t get much of an opportunity to explore and admire them. If you go back to those locations later to have a look, you won’t be able to get in because they’ve been permanently locked. It’s a bit annoying, especially if you enjoy exploring the game environment and taking in all the nuances.

Unlock After completing your assignments, a lot of those locales remain unlocked, allowing you to return and explore them at your leisure. The underground base of the Voodoo Boys, the Atlantis Bar, Maelstrom’s hideout, the Peralez Penthouse, Delamin HQ, Konpei Tower, and many other locations are included. Having Night City’s locales open whenever you want to revisit them is a significant boost, whether you’re just interested or want to perform some role-playing.

This mod doesn’t really solve a problem—Cyberpunk 2077 was never designed to be played in third-person, and you’d still miss out on a lot of the effect of seeing the world through V’s eyes. It also doesn’t work perfectly: as V’s legs shake and swivel around, utilizing this third-person camera hack is largely just plain weird.
