Pinty Buster PCP Pistol: Compact Power for Hunting and Backyard Shooting

Air pistols have traditionally been limited to target shooting and plinking. The Pinty Buster PCP pistol is part of a newer generation of pre-charged pneumatic handguns that blur the line between pistol convenience and rifle capability. With a regulated air system, dual Picatinny rails, and a threaded muzzle, it packs features that were previously reserved for much more expensive platforms.

Specifications That Matter

The Buster Tactical runs on a 100 cc air cylinder filled to a maximum of 3,625 PSI (250 BAR). In .177 caliber, it sends 8.18-grain pellets at up to 850 FPS, producing 13.1 ft-lbs of muzzle energy. In .22 caliber, it pushes 18.13-grain pellets at 700 FPS for 20 ft-lbs of energy. Those numbers place it firmly in small-game territory.

The regulated design delivers 20–25 reliable shots per fill according to manufacturer specs, though field reports suggest usable shot counts can stretch closer to 40 before velocity drops noticeably. A fast side-lever action keeps follow-up shots quick, and the adjustable hammer spring lets shooters fine-tune power output and shot feel.

Real-World Performance

A .22 caliber review of the Buster tested it at 20 yards with budget pellets. The pistol produced three consecutive hits on cans without sight adjustment, and later took a clay pigeon out of the air on the second shot using open sights. For an air pistol in the sub-$300 range, that level of out-of-the-box accuracy is notable.

In the field, the Buster proved capable on cottontail rabbits at close range. The 20 ft-lbs of muzzle energy is sufficient for squirrels, rabbits, and similar small game, provided shot placement is ethical. The pistol’s light weight, approximately 2.8 pounds makes it easy to carry in a pack or on a belt, which expands its practical role beyond the range.

Features That Set It Apart

The dual 21 mm Picatinny rails are a standout feature at this price point. The top rail accepts red dots or compact scopes, while the bottom rail can mount a light, laser, or foregrip. The 1/2×20 threaded muzzle allows for a moderator, which is useful for backyard pest control and noise-sensitive environments.

Pinty also includes two 8-round rotary magazines and a full rebuild kit with spare O-rings and washers. That level of accessory support is rare in budget airguns and suggests the company expects owners to actually use and maintain the pistol rather than treat it as a disposable purchase.

Where the Buster Fits

This is not a replacement for a full-size Pinty PCP air rifle when the goal is long-range precision or high shot counts. The Buster’s 100 cc cylinder and compact barrel limit its effective range compared to rifles like the Nightfall MKII or Timber. But as a backpack companion, a pest control tool, or a first PCP pistol, it occupies a useful niche.

For shooters who want handgun portability without sacrificing regulated PCP performance, the Pinty Buster is one of the more compelling options available today. It is accurate, configurable, and priced well below what comparable PCP pistols typically cost.
